STATEMENT

Anna Ortiz's paintings focus on the evolving accessibility to images. With Google image search, Flicker, Imgur etc. thousands of pictures are instantaneously available to anyone with access to the internet. This vastly incongruous image base allows us to search for pictures in the most Platonic sense of a word/image relationship. The results can often be random, repetitive and of poor quality. This surmounting accessibility ultimately leads us to a smaller vocabulary of imagery. We take for granted what these pictures are and what they represent. Ortiz's reifies these images by slowing down the rampant consumption of representation.
